Support for Your General Mobility
Calls for Projects and Mobility Grants
The CanBioS Doctoral School encourages doctoral students’ mobility projects (laboratory internships, research stays, summer schools, participation in conferences, etc.). However, CanBioS does not directly cover expenses related to these mobilities (transportation, accommodation, insurance, etc.).

- Mobility Support – CLARA: the CLARA Cancer Research Cluster offers calls for projects to fund research stays or training abroad related to cancer research, up to €2,000.
- Quebec–France Sophie Germain Mobility Scholarships : intended for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from Quebec wishing to undertake a research stay of at least one month in France. Worth $3,000, the scholarship covers travel and living expenses and can be combined with other funding. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted or until April 24, 2026. - Mobility Support – Worldwide Cancer Research: the Worldwide Cancer Research association supports early-career researchers in cancer research (EACR) by funding travel grants and fellowships, up to €3,500.
- Support for Laboratory Visits: the Company of Biologists offers support for applicants working in the field covered by the journal they are applying to and who intend to visit another laboratory.
- Eiffel Scholarship Program: the France Excellence Eiffel Scholarships provide funding for mobility periods (up to several months) during a PhD, often in the context of a joint or co-supervised thesis.
- University Programs and Scholarship Catalogs: many universities and international offices publish lists of mobility support for doctoral students (scholarship catalogs, funding via international relations or doctoral schools). In particular, Campus France maintains a directory of international scholarship programs.
Practical advice: Each call or program has its own eligibility criteria, application deadlines, and submission requirements. It is recommended to check these details before applying, and, if necessary, seek the support of your thesis supervisor or the relevant services at your institution.
CanBioS Scholarship for International Conferences
Support for International Conference Expenses
The Doctoral School (ED) plans to support students in attending international conferences by funding part of the registration fees. This support will be granted under certain conditions and according to the procedures described below.
The goal is to facilitate doctoral students’ participation in international conferences when their doctoral grant does not cover registration fees, especially for oral presentations.

Eligibility
Students already receiving external support (e.g., from La Ligue) are not eligible.

- Selected for an oral presentation
- Presenting at international conferences
- Presenting in poster format
- Allocation is done on a rolling basis, after verification of the student’s external funding.
Amount of Support
- Each eligible student can receive up to €500 maximum, once during their PhD, usable in one or several installments, but not exceeding €500.
- The amount will be the same for all recipients without external funding.
- The budget available for 2025 is €4,000, allowing support for approximately 8 CanBioS students.
Note: this budget is subject to revision depending on remaining expenses for other ED activities (training, CanBioS Day, doctoral competition, etc.).
Reimbursement Procedure
Reimbursement will only be made against an invoice, to the laboratory’s account, which will then transfer the amount to the student.
- Covered expenses: conference registration and, if applicable, workshops for training outside CRCL.
- Non-covered expenses: travel, hotel, meals, etc., remain the responsibility of the laboratories or students.
Procedure
The student sends an email to EDCanBioS@lyon.unicancer.f with:
- Full name
- Affiliated laboratory
- Conference title and dates
- Type of presentation (oral or poster)
- Invoices or proof of registration fees
The ED verifies eligibility and external funding.
If the student is eligible, the ED authorizes reimbursement via the laboratory’s account.
The student receives the corresponding amount, up to a maximum of €500 for their PhD.
